New staff writer Gary takes to the tracks with the most realistic driving experience to hit the PC. On your marks...
It's funny how many games are made from relatively obscure sports. The racing genre in particular is awash with games that, to the average gamer, are as about as interesting as a brick – and on the surface GTR FIA is one such game. The artwork featured on the box doesn’t suggest anything extraordinary, the features listed on the reverse of the retail casing display nothing that would make it stand out against any other PC racer - so you have got the original GTR FIA GT Series cars and courses, big deal. It’s licensed with Porsche 911, Viper GTS-R, BMW Z3M and Ferrari Maranello…so what? Licensing is nothing new - Gran Turismo has had genuine model cars since the first title. The point is that nowadays, you need to have more than the average to be noticed. Sure, you need all the cars and the right tracks, but you also need a game that will stand up and be a force to be reckoned with.
